Day 2: Visit Teotihuacan from Mexico City

08:30:00 hrs.
Turibus through Teotihuacán with a stop at the Basilica of Guadalupe
Gift.
Secret information: upon booking this itinerary the Travel Designer reveals additional information with tips.

It's time for a panoramic visit to the City of the Gods! Teotihuacan is one of the most impressive and important archaeological sites in the world. There are several ways to do this tour but what I recommend is using the Turibus (more information below).

Whatever way you do the tour, bring a small backpack with sunscreen, a cap or hat to protect you from the sun, a light long-sleeved shirt, and a bottle of water. The sun is very strong and tourists always sunburn. Put on your sunscreen!

One option to the the tour is to buy a Viator or Civitatis tour. Honestly these tours are not the best option in my opinion, but they are the cheapest way to visit Teotihuacan. They usually take you in a big bus with many tourists. Then they take you to restaurants and places to buy things. Many tourist traps.

Another way is renting a car and doing it on your own. It is quite comfortable, although you will miss the explanation of the archaeological site unless you hire one of the guides at the entrance.

Finally, the way I recommend the most is the Turibus:

The turibús is one of the best ways to take mini tours or circuits to various points in the City, including Teotihuacán. At 8:30 am the first one leaves from the National Auditorium (Paseo de la Reforma #50, Polanco, V Section. Miguel Hidalgo.), I recommend you take it at that point (it has other options to board the bus) because you can get on the second floor and have a beautiful view of the different points of Mexico City and Teotihuacán along the way. The first stop on this tour is the Basilica of Guadalupe; here you will visit one of the most important sights of Mexico, one of the maximum symbols of mestizo identity in Mexico and Catholicism.

In this extensive place there are two temples: a humble hermitage with more than 400 years of history. And the current Basilica of Guadalupe, which is visited by thousands of faithful people to the Virgin of Guadalupe year after year and is the second most visited Catholic temple after Saint Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. As an architectural work, it is an interesting tour where you can see the atrium, the windows, the architecture and the organ.

Teotihuacan.

Go back to the Turibus to continue your way to the City of the Gods. On the way they will make a stop where you can buy some food.

Then you will arrive at the ruins of the great aztec civilization: Teotihuacán has a long history that has not been deciphered completely. You can walk along the Calzada de los Muertos, as the main street of this mythical city is known.

Along the Calzada are the most important constructions of Teotihuacan, among them, the two great pyramids -of the Sun and the Moon-; the Quetzalpapálotl Complex, with its Palace, the Courtyard of the Jaguars and the Substructure of the Feathered Snails; The Citadel, with the Temple of Quetzalcóatl; and the Calle de los Muertos Complex composed of: Superimposed Buildings, Viking Group and the Plaza Oeste and Plaza Este complexes.

Then you will go to a craft store; Although you can find interesting options in this cooperative, we recommend you wait a bit because in the afternoon we will go to La Ciudadela to learn about other handicrafts at an affordable cost.

Finally, you will go to eat typical Mexican dishes in a special buffet, to finish with the return to Mexico City.

Craft Market: La Ciudadela
Gift.
Secret information: upon booking this itinerary the Travel Designer reveals additional information with tips.

"La Ciudadela" is a craft market that is located outside the Balderas metro and metrobus.

In La Ciudadela Market there is a complete sample of crafts from different parts of Mexico. In its stalls you can find everything from a glass bracelet to a carved headboard, passing through textiles, clay, hammocks or guitars.

You can also visit the library of Mexico that is located to one side (De La Ciudadela No.4, Colonia Centro); This building was built at the end of the 18th century to install the Royal Tobacco Factory of New Spain. Closes at 7:30 p.m.

I normally recommend doing this activity in the afternoon after visiting Teotihuacan. But you can do it any day because the hotels that I recommend are generally not far from La Ciudadela.

Detail

For years I have received many visits from friends and family mainly from Europe and the USA who want to discover Mexico City.

Today a friend from Spain asked me to help her organize a trip to Mexico for her best friend who wants to celebrate her honeymoon in Mexico. So I decided to make this trip itinerary to Mexico City that I hope will serve her and everyone who is reading this trip.

Mexico City is a special and unique place in the world. Maybe I think so because I am originally from Mexico City and have spent most of my life there. I spent my childhood and adolescence in a house very close to the center of Coyoacán in the southern part of the city. Later I moved to the Condesa neighborhood and spent a few years living there with roommates from Spain, Italy and Austria.

What is this itinerary about?

I am going to try to guide you so that you visit the places you have to see in Mexico City and also visit others that I am personally going to recommend. I will try to organize the itinerary so that every moment is worth it. Mexico City is so big and so diverse that obviously we will not have time to see everything and you will most likely want to return later. There will be a lot of tourist activities and also a lot of delicious food!

The first day I am going to recommend that you go to dinner at a taqueria. The reason is that I don't know what time you arrive and usually everyone arrives very tired and sometimes late.

On the second day I am going to recommend you to visit the pyramids of Teotihuacan. Without a doubt, it is one of the places that you cannot miss. The visit is quite tiring, and in my experience, many prefer to do it on the first day. If you don't want to do something so tiring the first day you can always change the order of the activities for each day.

On the third day I am going to recommend you to visit Coyoacán and San Angel to the south of the city. This part is very famous because the renowned artist Frida Kahlo and her husband Diego Riviera grew up here. I highly recommend you watch the Sandra Hayek movie.

On the fourth day I am going to recommend you to walk around the Condesa, the Roma and the City Center. There are so many things to see. I will try to guide you to see the best ones.

On the fifth day I am going to recommend you to go to Xochimilco and the chinampas.
