En route, we'll stop at the family-owned Selva Maya or Cañada restaurant for breakfast. Bonampak is one of the most fascinating archaeological sites in our journey to Chiapas, boasting the best-preserved Mayan paintings worldwide. The Bonampak wall paintings depict a captivating narrative about the ancient Maya's lifestyle and customs.
Our next destination is Yaxchilán, one of the region's most striking Mayan cities. Located amidst the jungle, the ruins of Yaxchilán are only accessible by navigating the Usumacinta River, which separates Mexico from Guatemala. The 50-minute boat ride itself is an exhilarating experience.
Upon arrival at Yaxchilán, we'll explore the city's impressive structures and temples, dating back to the classical period of Mayan civilization.
