On your own: Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Sumidero Canyon, and San Cristóbal de las Casas.
Travel Designer Review:
The Sumidero Canyon is one of the most beautiful natural sites in Chiapas and Mexico. It is known as one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World. I'm sure you will love it.
The tour must be done by boat, which takes you upstream through the canyons. The views are impressive, with some canyons reaching heights of over 900 meters. But the most incredible thing is the nature that exists between the canyons and on the walls.
For those who make a reservation for any of my "Travel on Your Own" itineraries to Chiapas, I will share some tips to enhance their visit to the Sumidero Canyon.
If you rented a car, you will be able to easily travel to San Cristobal de las Casas. The journey takes about 1 hour and covers 60 kilometers.
If you did not rent a car, I recommend requesting a taxi. The approximate cost of the transfer is 600 pesos. I recommend going directly to your hotel to settle in before going out to explore San Cristobal de las Casas.
All the hotels I will suggest are located in the center of San Cristobal de las Casas. They are hotels with an optimal location and good service. Most hotels in San Cristobal are small, so it is very common to have availability issues.
They are small because the city has been declared a World Heritage Site and the law prohibits modifications to the buildings in order to preserve the historic architectural heritage. Magnificent hotels where you can enjoy San Cristobal de las Casas.

The following suggested activities and notes are not included in the reservation of this itinerary. The Travel Designer included them so that you can optionally do them on your own during your trip.
Chiapas is one of the most impressive and beautiful states in all of Mexico. I have visited it many times for over 10 years. I also had the luck of living in a house in San Cristóbal de las Casas for a period of time.
All of the visits I have made to Chiapas have been very pleasant experiences. Some trips I specifically made to explore tourist attractions, hotels, and tours to recommend to my acquaintances.
This tour I have designed is for those who want to enjoy Chiapas on their own, without the restrictions of being tied to the schedule of a tour, seeing the most emblematic places at a very affordable price.
It is a trip aimed at families, couples, or friends who want to enjoy a medium to high level of comfort. It is not a trip aimed at backpackers, although it is probably accessible to them as well since Chiapas is very affordable.
In all the trips I design, I usually recommend 4-star category hotels. Occasionally, I recommend some of lower category because they are the only ones available or the best in the area. When I recommend a 5-star hotel or a more expensive one, it is because I believe the hotel is, in addition to accommodation, a destination or tourist attraction itself.
To make this trip, it is recommended to rent a car for your entire stay (not included in the price). If you do not wish to drive, the best way to get around is by using taxis.
